NFA Purchase Process
Thank you for choosing McQueeney Gun Club for your NFA purchase. We understand that purchasing NFA-regulated items can seem complicated, especially for first-time buyers. Our goal is to make the process as smooth and straightforward as possible.
What Are NFA Items?
NFA items are firearms and accessories regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). These may include:
- Suppressors / Silencers
- Short-Barreled Rifles (SBRs)
- Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBSs)
- Machine Guns
- Destructive Devices
- Any Other Weapons (AOWs)
All NFA purchases require approval from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) before the item can be transferred to the buyer.
Important Requirements
To purchase an NFA item, customers must:
- Be legally eligible to own firearms under federal, state, and local law
- Be at least 21 years old for suppressor purchases through dealers
- Complete all required ATF paperwork
- Submit fingerprints and photographs when required
- Pay the applicable ATF tax stamp fee
As of January 1, 2026, the federal transfer tax for many NFA items, including suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs, has been reduced from $200 to $0 under current federal law.
However, ATF approval, registration requirements, background checks, fingerprints, photographs, and all applicable transfer procedures still apply.
How the NFA Process Works
- Purchase your NFA item through our website.
- Select a local FFL/SOT dealer to handle your transfer if required.
- Complete all required ATF paperwork and documentation.
- Submit fingerprints, photograph, and tax stamp payment as required by the ATF.
- Your application will be submitted for ATF review and approval.
- Once approved, the item may legally be transferred to you through the appropriate FFL/SOT dealer.
ATF Approval Times
Approval times vary and are determined entirely by the ATF.
McQueeney Gun Club cannot guarantee approval timelines and has no control over processing delays once paperwork has been submitted.
Important Policies
- NFA items are not eligible for return once paperwork has been submitted to the ATF.
- Orders canceled after paperwork submission may be subject to restocking fees and non-refundable processing costs.
- Customers are responsible for ensuring NFA ownership is legal in their state and local jurisdiction prior to purchase.
- If an order cannot legally be completed, the order may be canceled at our discretion.
Shipping and Transfers
NFA items must be shipped in compliance with all federal regulations and may require transfer through a licensed FFL/SOT dealer.
Certain items may require additional transfer steps depending on the product type and destination state.
